July 24, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day*

  • CJ Abrams, SS – AZL Padres 1 – San Diego Padres – – 2-5, HR (3), 3B, 2R, 3RBi – – There isn’t a thing this kid cannot do. He hits for average (.424), has some home run poke and steals bases (13). The only knock on his game thus far is the ten errors he’s committed at short, but much like a power hitter who strikes out a ton, you take the bad if it means the good is going to be this damn good. I know I always say this, but I’ll continue saying it. If your league allows you to add minors and Abrams is available, for the love of all things baseball holy, pick this kid up immediately.

California League:

  • Gareth Morgan, LF – Inland Empire 66ers – Los Angeles Angels –– 1-5, HR (19/20), R, 2RBi, K –– Here we go again. Aside from all the standard, fundamental stats we post here every day, those statistical side-notes sure are fun to watch. Going back to Monday, July 22; this is when Morgan cracked his last home run, in the seventh inning of Inland Empire’s 6-4 loss to the 6’4″- 265 lb. slugger’s former team Modesto. On Tuesday, Morgan didn’t start, but made a pinch hit appearance in the ninth, grounding out to start the inning. This leads us to last night. Now Morgan’s third home run ago, he had stretched the distance between dingers to one home run every 12 at-bats. Well, Morgan wasn’t having it. His first inning blast last night marked the third at-bat since his last home run, bringing his season “at-bats per home run” ratio total back down to a cool 10.58. Gotta love the law of averages.
