July 9, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day*

  • Diowill Burgos, RF/LF – DSL Cardinals Red – St. Louis Cardinals –
    • – 4-4, HR (8), 3B, 2B, R, 2RBi –
      • – In his professional debut with the DSL Cardinals Blue squad last year, the then-17-year-old Burgos batted .210 with six home runs, eight doubles and registered 72 strikeouts to 30 walks in 56 games. The organization decided to have the Dominican Republic native repeat the DSL, and sometimes that decision can pay huge dividends, which it has for the 6’1″- 190 lb. lefty. Burgos registered 18 extra bases in 210 at-bats in 2018, but this year, he’s already smashed that number, having logged eight doubles, two triples and a league-leading eight homers in nearly half of the at-bats. Burgos has also walked 20 times to only 18 strikeouts in 29 games thus far. With this kind of improvement, Burgos is a definite deep-minors “watch lister. ” Oh, did I mention that the Cardinals Red outfielder hit for his first career cycle yesterday?

      • – Huff is at it again, blasting his seventh home run with Down East and twenty-second on the season after a thrilling showing at the MLB All-Star Futures Game. Huff, the Rangers #21 ranked prospect (Pipeline), came to the plate with the American League Futures squad down 0-2 and their last two strikes, Huff stepped to the plate against Rockies reliever (and potential future closer) Ben Bowden and did this, tying the game and winning Futures Game MVP. I still don’t think the ball has landed yet. Huff should be a household name by now. He has been at UTRMinors for quite some time, having made the 2019 HOD list 22 times this season (not including today).
