*Top Hitter of the Day*
- Donovan Casey, RF – Rancho Cucamonga Quakes – Los Angeles Dodgers –
- – 2-4, 2 HR (14,15), 3R, 6RBi, BB, K –
- – Lancaster Jethawks first baseman Luis Castro went 0-4 with a strikeout in last night’s game versus Lake Elsinore, holding him at 158 total bases heading into Sunday. A spot he’s held for a lengthy amount of time. However, Casey, the Dodgers 2017 – 20th round draft pick out of Boston College, drew ever so close to Castro with his second two-homer game of the season (June 21, his first) and a season high six runs batted in in Rancho Cucamonga’s thrashing of Inland Empire last night. The Quakes started off three up-three down in the top of the first, while the 66er’s tacked on a run in their half of the inning off a two-out Gareth Morgan (seen below) solo homer (his thirteenth on the season). Knotted at one run a piece, things remained quiet over the next two innings, then Rancho Cucamonga came up in the fifth. After Inland Empire starter Aaron Hernandez (L, 0-2) gave up a single, a walk and a wild pitch, reliever Adam Warren came in to try limiting the early damage, and proceeded to give up a grand slam to Donovan. The Quakes scored one more run and left the inning with a 6-1 lead. RC pitching held the 66er’s to a scoreless sixth, but the Quakes offense seemed to just be getting started. Casey came up again in the sixth, belting his second consecutive homer, scoring Brayan Morales, who reached on a leadoff single. The Dodgers farmhands finished the inning with two more runs bringing the score to 8-1, then added two more in the seventh, three in the eighth and another in the ninth to complete the 14-2 drubbing of their South division rival.
