*Top Hitter of the Day*
- Jerar Encarnacion, RF – Jupiter Hammerheads – Miami Marlins – – 3-5, HR (3/13), 2 2B, 2R, 3RBi, K – Yesterday I mentioned in fellow Miami prospect JD Orr’s (Batavia Muckdogs) write-up that its guys like him that are the reason Jim and I do what I do. Orr, a tenth round draft pick (2019 – Wright State) is tearing up the New York-Penn League early on this season. Encarnacion, a 6’4″- 220 lb. righty from the Dominican Republic has been a fixture of our daily feature this season. He’s made the HOD list 18 times this season to be exact (19 counting today) and I honestly expected upon his promotion to the pitcher-friendly Florida State League for Jupiter’s June 20 game versus Fort Myers that he’d slow down considerably. The FSL has tamed many a blue-chip prospect. Not the case here. Encarnacion’s first two games with the Hammerheads: 4-9, 2 home runs, 3 runs scored, 3 runs batted in. In his nine games with Jupiter he’s batting .359 with three home runs, six runs scored, seven runs batted in. I don’t think anyone expected this, and just like organizational mate Orr, Encarnacion is the quintessential UTR prospect in 2019 thus far. If he’s available in your league, add him immediately.

Paulson went yard in the top of the first to give the Loons an early 2-0 lead. With the score 3-2, Paulson led off the fifth with his second of the night, knotting the score at 3-3, but Great Lakes exited the inning having tacked on another run via third baseman Jair Camargo‘s single, which scored catcher Hunter Feduccia, who reached base previously on a double to right. Fort Wayne pitching held the Loons scoreless for the next four innings, while adding three runs of their own in their half of the fourth, then two more in each the seventh and eighth innings. With the score tied at five a piece, Paulson reached base in the tenth, but was left stranded at third, but not before Great Lakes added two runs in the inning thanks to a leadoff hitter, Chris Roller‘s triple, which scored infielder/pitcher Luke Heyer, who started the inning on second base. Roller scored on a two-out single by Camargo to center, and the Loons exited the inning with a one-run lead. Heyer, mentioned above, pitched the final two innings for Great Lakes, giving up one run on two hits, striking out three and walking two, but locking down his first win of 2019.
