June 21, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day*

  • Sean Bouchard, LF – Lancaster Jethawks – Colorado Rockies – – 3-3, 2 HR (7,8), 3R, 3RBi, 2BB – – The 2017 – ninth rounder out of UCLA has collected a hit in eight out of his last nine games and has nine hits over his last four, highlighted by the first two-home run game of his career last night in Lancaster’s 13-7 win over Rancho Cucamonga. The 6’3″- 215 lb. cleanup hitter got things started with a solo home run to lead off the bottom half of the second inning. The Jethawks batted around, as Bouchard took a two-out walk before shortstop Ryan Vilade ended Lancaster’s five-run inning with a pop out to Quakes first baseman Nick Yarnall.   Rancho Cucamonga added three runs of their own in the top half of the third to bring the score to 5-3. In the fourth, Bouchard took a two-out walk, then scored  on a double by right fielder Casey Golden. Designated hitter Todd Czinege ended the inning with a strikeout, but not before Lancaster plated four more runs, and leaving with a 9-3 lead. Bouchard had a single in a scoreless sixth, Lancaster scored two more in the seventh, but Bouchard found pay dirt once again in the eighth, clubbing a 2-0 pitch over the center field wall for his second leadoff homer of the night and eighth on the year giving Lancaster a 13-6 lead. Ryan Vilade decided they weren’t done, making it back-to-back homers, as he sent an 0-1 pitch over the right center wall giving him his third home run on the year, extending Lancaster’s lead. Reliever Tommy Doyle came on in the ninth to secure the Jethawk’s 13-7 win.

  • Alfonso Rivas, 1B – Stockton Ports – Oakland A’s – – 2-2, 3B, RBi, 2BB –

Carolina League:

  • Yonny Hernandez, SS – Down East Wood Ducks – Texas Rangers – – 4-5, 2B, 2R, 2RBi, SB (17) – – The Rangers unranked prospect may have only seven extra-base hits this season, but the switch-hitter is batting .306, carries a .430 on-base percentage, ranks fifth in the Carolina League with 17 stolen bases and brings a perfect 44:44 BB:K ratio into Saturday’s games.
  • Marcus Wilson, CF – Salem Red Sox – Boston Red Sox – – 2-2, HR (4/7), 2R, 2RBi, BB, SB (2/6) –
  • Will Benson, RF – Lynchburg Hillcats – Cleveland Indians – – 1-5, HR (1/19), R, 2RBi, 2K – In his second game in HiA, Benson belted his first home run for the Hillcats  helping lead Lynchburg to lastnight’s 6-3 victory over Wintson-Salem.

Florida State League:

  • Brock Deatherage, CF – Lakeland Flying Tigers – Detroit Tigers – – 3-5, 3B, 2r, 2RBi, SB (22) –
  • Trevor Larnach, DH – Fort Myers Miracle – Minnesota Twins – – 2-4, 2B, 2RBi – – Larnach’s two-out, two-run double in the top of the eighth padded his Florida State League lead in doubles (23) and helped him retain his FSL total bases lead at 120.
  • Jerar Encarnacion, RF – Jupiter Hammerheads – Miami Marlins – – 3-5, HR (2/12), 2B, 2R, 2RBi, K – – For those who may be new to UTRMinors and our brand of reporting, we put together an off-season Organizational All-Star feature highlighting the best at each position per organization. If I were to put that together today, there might not be a more deserving outfield candidate in not only the Marlins system, but all the minors than Encarnacion. The 21-year-old Dominican Republic native is the poster boy for under-the-radar, as the unranked prospect laid waste to LoA South Atlantic League pitching, and so far in the Florida State. In two games thus far with the Hammerheads, the 6’4″- 215 lb. right is batting .444 with home runs in consecutive games, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Do we expect an eventual slow down, of course. The FSL has tamed many a top prospect, and Encarnacion is no exception, but with his performance thus far in 2019, he’s cemented himself a legitimate prospect in the Marlins system moving forward.
  • Stuart Fairchild, CF – Daytona Tortugas – Cincinnati Reds – – 2-3, HR (6), R, 2RBi, BB –

Midwest League:

  • Ivan Herrera, C – Peoria Chiefs – St. Louis Cardinals – – 1-4, HR (6), R, RBi, BB, K –
  • David Fry, 1B – Wisconsin Timber Rattlers – Milwaukee Brewers – – 1-4, HR (10), R, RBi – – Fry’s tenth homer on the season was his second home run in as many days, as the super-utility fielder heads into Saturday’s contest with Clinton the Midwest League leader in doubles (28) and total bases (135).

South Atlantic League:

  • Corey Zangari, 1B – Kannapolis Intimidators – Chicago White Sox – – 3-3, 3 2B, R, RBi, BB –
  • Niko Decolati,  CF – Asheville Tourists – Colorado Rockies – – 2-3, 2B, BB, K – – Decolati, a native of Boulder, Colo, grew up watching the Rockies, and being drafted by his boyhood favorite team was a dream come true. So far, he’s making good progress on the goal of making it to Coors Field. He led Grand Junction last year in RBi (56), stolen bases (17) and tied for the team lead with 11 home runs. He heads into Saturday’s matchup versus Colombia one of Asheville’s most productive per-game hitters, even on a team that houses top shortstop prospect Terrin Vavra. Do not sleep on Decolati.

  • Franklin Labour, RF – Salem-Keizer Volcanoes – San Francisco Giants – – 1-5, HR (4), 2R, 3RBi, 2K – –  Other than June 18 versus Spokane, the 6’1″- 190 lb. righty has collected a hit in every game this season, but has reached base in every game thus far, and sits at the top of the Northwest League leaderboard in home runs and total bases (23).

  • Luisangel Acuna, SS – DSL Rangers1 – Texas Rangers – – 3-4, 2B, R, RBi, BB – – The Rangers1 shortstop collected another three hits yesterday, and it’s the fifth time this season he’s achieved the feat. Yet, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that with the name “Acuna” he’s tearing the cover off the ball. He’s not only leading the Dominican Summer League with 28 hits, he’s on a current 14-game hitting streak and also the younger brother of Braves outfield phenom Ronald Acuna Jr. So, act accordingly and place Luisangel on any and every prospect “Watch” list you can. If bloodlines mean anything, Texas could have another mega-star on their hands.
