*Top Hitter of the Day*
- Luis Castro, 1B – Lancaster Jethawks – Colorado Rockies –– 4-4, 3 HR (7,8,9), 4R, 6RBi, 3BB –– Lancaster first baseman Luis Castro set a career high with his first three home run game and also drove in a career high six runs in yesterday’s extra-inning slugfest with Rancho Cucamonga. Not only did the 6’1″- 185 lb. Venezuela native lead the way, blasting his seventh, eighth and ninth homers on the season, but but each of the Jethawk’s 2-through-7 hitters registered at least two hits a piece. Castro singled in the first inning, then walked and scored in what was a three-run Lancaster third. Castro came to the plate in the fourth, belting his first homer of the night after a Ryan Vilade leadoff single, leading the Jethawks to another three run inning. The Quakes scored three of their own in the top of the fifth, but Castro wasn’t having it, as he and Casey Golden went back to back, clubbing their seventh and eighth homers on the season respectively, pushing Lancaster back into an 8-6 lead. After a scoreless sixth, and top of the seventh, shortstop Carlos Herrera added his name to the Lancaster homer list with a leadoff solo shot in the bottom of the inning, adding to the Lancaster lead. Rancho Cucamonga fired back with a three-runs in the ninth, tying the game at nine runs a piece. After a scoreless tenth inning, Quakes center fielder Jeren Kendall led off the eleventh at second base, and Rancho Cucamonga took a three run lead with three consecutive two-out hits. Infielder Devin Mann and right fielder Donovan Casey each singled, then scored after Eric Peterson‘s pinch-hit double to the left fielder Todd Czinege. But this wouldn’t be the last time Czinege touched the ball. Down three runs, Lancaster started the bottom of the inning with leadoff hitter and second baseman Carlos Herrera at second. 2017 – 2nd rounder Ryan Vilade walked, and with two runners on, Castro slugged his third home run on the night, knotting the game at 12 runs a piece. With no outs and the game now tied, 2017 University of Villanova draftee Czinege blasted his sixth home run of the season for a dramatic walk-off 13-12 (6) victory.
