  • Moises Gomez, LF – Charlotte Stone Crabs – Tampa Bay Rays –

      • – Tampa Bay’s #13 prospect (Pipeline) broke out of a 3-for-30 slump, hitting as many homers Sunday as he did in his previous 21 games in the Stone Crabs 9-3 win over Clearwater. In the top of the first, veteran Matt Duffy lined a triple to right field in between two Damon Jones strikeouts, and with the rehabbing Duffy on third, Gomez, hit a two run homer giving Charlotte a 2-0 lead. The 5’11”- 200 lb. Gomez came up again in the fifth, and with another two outs, and Duffy on base again after single, Gomez went yard for his second of the day. The Stone Crabs weren’t finished, as Garrett Whitley (also) hit his fifth on the season giving Charlotte back-to-back homers and a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. 

California League: 

  • Cal Raleigh, C – Modesto Nuts – Seattle Mariners – – 2-4, 2B, R, K – Modesto versus Rancho Cucamonga was the only game played in the Cal League yesterday. All the others were either suspended or postponed due to inclement weather.

However, Miguelangel Sierra‘s leadoff homer in the bottom of the third was all Fayetteville pitching would need, as two Fayetteville pitchers (Yohan Ramirez and Hunter Martin) combined to toss a nine inning one-hit shutout, in an 11-0 victory over Carolina (MIL).

Florida State League: 

  • Brady Policelli, C – Lakeland Flying Tigers – Detroit Tigers – – 2-4, HR (6), 2R, 3RBi, BB – – Policelli’s nine hits in his last 19 at-bats (.474) have helped secure his position as the Florida State League total base leader (85) heading into Monday’s games. In a league that’s known for pitching dominance, the 5’11”- 195 lb. catcher is on pace to equal and/or surpass his career totals in nearly every statistical category.

  • Mark Vientos, 3B – Columbia Fireflies – New York Mets – – 2-4, 2 2B, R, 2RBi – – Vientos is showing signs of breaking out of a season-long slump registering his ninth hit in his last 22 at-bats (.409) over his last five games raising his average to season-high .248.
