May 8, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day*

  • Niko Hulsizer, LF – Great Lakes Loons – Los Angeles Dodgers –
    • – 3-4, HR (6), 2B, 3R, 3RBi, BB –
      • – The Dodgers look to have a true under-the-radar performer on their hands. Hulsizer, an 18th rounder out of Morehead State in 2018, cranked out three more hits yesterday, including his sixth homer, has nine hits over his last five games and has reached base in 12 straight contests.

California League:

  • Jancarlos Cintron, 2B – Visalia Rawhide – Arizona Diamondbacks –
    • – 3-5, 2B, 2R, 2RBi, K –
  • Austin Beck, CF – Stockton Ports – Oakland A’s –
    • – 1-3, HR (5), R, 2RBi –

Carolina League:

  • Nolan Jones, 3B – Lynchburg Hillcats – Cleveland Indians –
    • – 3-3, 3B, 2B, 2R, 3RBi, 2BB, SB (3) –
      • The Indians number two prospect and eighth overall ranked third baseman (Pipeline) posted his second three-hit game of the season, (his first was on Opening Day) along with his first triple of the season last night, but it wasn’t enough, as Lynchburg fell to Winston-Salem 9-8 after catcher Carlos Perez‘ hit a walk-off pinch hit single in the bottom of the ninth scoring Jameson Fisher. The 2016 Holy Ghost Prep HS draftee  (PA) has been one of the more consistent performers in the Carolina League this season and it’s not out of the question to see our 2018 UTR OAS choice reach Double-A before season’s end.

  • Bryan De La Cruz, RF – Fayetteville Woodpeckers – Houston Astros –
    • – 2-5, HR (3), 2B, 2R, 2RBi, 2K –
  • Jake Adams, DH – Fayetteville Woodpeckers – Houston Astros –

  • Alejandro Kirk, C – Dunedin Blue Jays – Toronto Blue Jays –
    • – 2-3, 2 2B, R, BB –
      • – The Tijuana, Mexico native has suffered zero slow down since his promotion to HiA, with his second consecutive two-hit performance, highlighted by his first two-double game of the season. He’s batting .417 for Dunedin, and a combined .315 in 24 games this season.

Midwest League:

  • Delvin Perez, SS – Peoria Chiefs – St. Louis Cardinals –
    • – 3-4, 2R –
      • – The Cardinals post-hype prospect registered his second consecutive three-hit performance, and has 10 hits over his last six games (10-for-26; .385).
  • Reece Hampton, RF – West Michigan Whitecaps – Detroit Tigers –
    • – 2-4, 2B, 2R, K –
      • After going 0-for-9 in his previous two games, the Tigers 12th round draft pick in 2018 out of UNC-Charlotte bounced back with a 2-for-4 performance (versus Peoria) and is now batting .309 on the season. The 5’10”- 170 lb. switch-hitter has also reached base in 20 out of 24 games this season.
  • Dillon Paulson, 1B – Great Lakes Loons – Los Angeles Dodgers –
    • – 3-5, HR (3), 2B, 2R, 3RBi –
      • – Speaking of UTR, three hits and streaks, Paulson is another true UTR hitter in LA’s prospect rich system. The 6’3″- 200 lb. lefty logged his own three hits, highlighted by his third home run and a double in Great Lakes 10-6 victory over Kane County (18-15); and the 13th round draft choice out of Southern Cal (2018)  has reached base in 17 straight games and 24 out of his 27 games this season.
  • Will Banfield, C – Clinton Lumberkings – Miami Marlins –
    • – 3-5, 3RBi, 2K –
      • – Known mostly for his all-around plus-plus defense, the former Vanderbilt commit has shown off supreme bat skills lately, registering his first three-hit game on the year, and has seven hits in 16 at-bats over his last four games.

South Atlantic League:

  • Samuel Huff, DH – Hickory Crawdads – Texas Rangers –
    • – 3-4, HR (15), R, 2RBi –
      • – The 6’4″- 230 lb. Arizona native got back on the home run train with his 15th, (and minor league leading) blast on the season last night, a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Huff averages a home run every two games and sits among some of the minor league’s top prospects like Houston’s Yordan Alvarez, the Brewers Keston Hiura and Atlanta’s Austin Riley in total bases.
  • Wilkerman Garcia, SS – Charleston RiverDogs – New York Yankees –
    • – 3-4, HR (3), 2 2B, 2R, 3RBi –
      • – Signed out of Venezuela back in 2014, the 21-year-old switch-hitter posted his second three-hit game of the season last night and has eight hits over his last 19 at bats (.421).
