May 6, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day*

  • Rodolfo Castro, SS – Greensboro Grasshoppers – Pittsburgh Pirates –– 2-4, HR (10), R, RBi – – In what has pretty much been the Samuel Huff Power Show in the South Atlantic League this season, there may not be a hitter who’s been hotter over the last nine games than Pirate’s middle-infielder Rodolfo Castro. After going 0-for-4 on April 23, Castro has collected 14 hits in 34 at-bats (.412), blasted eight of his 10 homers, 15 of his 18 RBi and has raised his batting average 78 points (.294).

  • Alejandro Kirk, C – Dunedin Blue Jays – Toronto Blue Jays – – 2-5, 2B, 3RBi, K – – In only his second game for HiA Dunedin after a promotion from LoA Lansing on May 4, our 2018 Blue Jays Organizational All-Star selection at catcher came up big, lacing a two-out, bases-clearing double to center, scoring designated hitter Norberto Obeso (who’s single earlier in the inning drove in center fielder Hunter Steinmetz), third baseman Cullen Large and left fielder Ryan Noda, capping off a four-run top of the ninth, and helping secure a 5-3 victory over Tampa. Kirk is batting .302, carries a .419 on-base percentage and has registered twice as many walks as strikeouts (18:9) so far this season. If he continues this pace, he will be one of the fastest risers in the Toronto system heading into off-season prospect lists.
