- Rodolfo Castro, 2B – Greensboro Grasshoppers – Pittsburgh Pirates – – 2-3, 2 HR (5,6), 3R, 4RBi, BB, K – – The Pirates unranked prospect (Pipeline) blasted his fifth and sixth home runs on the season last night. Castro got started with a one-out solo shot in the bottom of the second; then in the fourth, after Rome starter Trey Riley issued two walks (and a stolen base in between) to open the inning, Castro followed with his second round-tripper of the night, giving the Grasshoppers a 5-4 lead. They needed every run as Greensboro outlasted Rome by a score of 9-7 helping lead them to a 15-9 record in the ultra competitive Sally League Northern division. Aside from Castro’s two home runs last night, all of the 6’0″- 200 lb. switch-hitter’s six homers on the season have come in his last eight games.
California League:
- Jeter Downs, SS – Rancho Cucamonga Quakes – Los Angeles Dodgers – – 3-4, HR (2), 2 2B, 3R, 2RBi – – Last night’s performance could be a sign that the 5’11”- 185 lb. righty could be breaking out of a season-long slump. Batting a meager .188 prior to Monday night’s game, the 2017 – CBA round draft pick out of Pace, Miami Gardens HS (FL) was also 4-for-29 in his previous eight games, but Downs posted his first three-hit game of 2019, highlighted by his second home run on the season along with two doubles.
