*Top Hitter of the Day*
- Luis Robert, DH – Winston-Salem Dash – Chicago White Sox – – 4-5, HR (8), 3B, 3R, 3RBi – – Despite the month of April having one more day of action, if we were to hand out MVP trophies by month, the White Sox Luis Robert would be a runaway winner based on the absolute assault he’s committed on Carolina League pitching. In 19 games, the 6’3″- 185 pounder has 69 total bases, leads the league in RBi (24) and averages nearly two hits per game. As much as I enjoy highlighting the Havana, Cuba native on my daily lists, the 21-year-old righty is extremely overdue for a promotion to Double-A Birmingham, whose roster currently carries a .235 batting average and 10 home runs, next to Robert’s Carolina League leading eight home runs and .453 average.
California League:
- Leonardo Rivas, SS – Inland Empire 66ers – Los Angeles Angels – – 2-4, HR (4), R, RBi, K – – The lightweight Venezuela native led off the bottom of the first with his fourth home run of the season; and the Angels #26 prospect (Pipeline) has posted two hits and a home run in three straight games.
- Matt Hearn, CF – Lancaster Jethawks – Colorado Rockies – – 5-6, 2B, 2R, 5RBi, K, SB (9) – – The 23-year-old Mission College (CA) draftee (2016) has registered 15 hits in his last 29 at bats over his last six games (.517).
- Luis Castro, DH – Lancaster Jethawks – Colorado Rockies –– 1-3, HR (3), R, 3RBi, 3BB, 2K, SB (4) –
- Jack Larsen, LF – Modesto Nuts – Seattle Mariners – – 3-5, 2 2B, 2R, 3RBi, BB –
- Jose Caballero, SS – Visalia Rawhide – Arizona Diamondbacks – – 2-4, HR (2), R, RBi, BB, K, SB (16) –
- Mark Karaviotis, LF – Visalia Rawhide – Arizona Diamondbacks –– 1-3, HR (2), R, RBi, 2BB, SB (1) –
- Alfonso Rivas, 1B – Stockton Ports – Oakland A’s – – 2-4, HR (2), R, 3RBi, BB, SB (2)
Carolina League:
- Colton Shaver, 3B – Fayetteville Woodpeckers – Houston Astros – – 3-3, 2B, 2R, BB –
- KJ Harrison, 1B – Potomac Nationals – Washington Nationals – – 3-4, 2B, 2R – – The Nationals promoted the former third round draft choice out of Oregon State (2017) to HiA Potomac from LoA Hagerstown and in his first three games as a Sun, he’s blasted the Carolina League with eight hits in 13 at-bats, and is batting .443 collectively on the season.
- Pedro Castellanos, 1B – Salem Red Sox – Boston Red Sox – – 3-4, 2 2B, R, 2RBi – – After Salem’s April 23 game versus Potomac, the 21-year-old Venezuelan was sitting on a .194 average, but a switch must have gone off, as Castellanos has raised his batting average 88 points (.282) by logging 12 hits in his last 23 at-bats over his last six games.
