April 23, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day* 

  • Pabel Manzanero, 1B – Dayton Dragons – Cincinnati Reds – – 3-5, 3 HR (2,3,4), 3R, 4RBi, K – – The Reds unranked prospect became the third Midwest League player this season to register a three-homer game. Manzanero started his night with a two run shot in the first inning, with his second (a solo shot) coming in the fifth. The 6’3″- 235 lb. Venezuela native then clubbed his third blast of the night (a two-out solo shot) in the seventh inning. 

California League: 

  • Luis Alejandro Basabe, 2B – Visalia Rawhide – Arizona Diamondbacks – – 1-2, HR (3), 2R, 4RBi, 2BB– Basabe has six hits in his last nine at-bats and is 9-for-his-last- 17 including home runs in consecutive games. 
  • Gabriel Arias, SS – Lake Elsinore Storm – San Diego Padres – – 2-4, HR (2), R, 2RBi– The 6’1″- 200 lb. Venezuela native made his second home run on the season count with a walk-off two-run blast in the bottom of the tenth leading Lake Elsinore to a 3-1 win over Lancaster. 
  • Eugene Helder, 1B – Modesto Nuts – Seattle Mariners – – 2-3, 2 HR (2,3), 2R, 3RBi, BB – 

Carolina League: 

  • Jodd Carter, CF – Lynchburg HillCats – Cleveland Indians – – 1-3, HR (3), 2R, 2RBi, BB –
  • Mario Feliciano, C – Carolina Mudcats – Milwaukee Brewers – – 4-5, HR (3), 2B, R, 3RBi – – The Brewers #14 prospect registered his first four-hit game of the year and the second of his career (July 28 2018 vs Potomac), helping the MudCats to a 7-3 victory over Myrtle Beach to improve to 11-8 on the season.  

Florida State League:

  • Dermis Garcia, 1B – Tampa Tarpons – New York Yankees – – 2-4, 2B, 2R, 2RBi, BB, K – – The Yankees unranked prospect continues his stronghold on the Florida State League with a league leading 46 total bases, 22 RBi and six home runs – 
  • Isiah Gilliam, CF – Tampa Tarpons – New York Yankees – – 2-3, HR (3), R, 2RBi, BB – 
  • Vidal Brujan, SS – Charlotte Stone Crabs – Tampa Bay Rays – – 2-3, 3B, 2R, RBi, 2BB, K, 2 SB (9,10) –

Midwest League:

  • Wander Franco, SS – Bowling Green Hit Rods – Tampa Bay Rays – – 3-3, 3 2B, BB – 
  • Sean Reynolds, 1B – Clinton Lumberkings – Miami Marlins – – 1-3, HR (2), R, 2RBi, BB, 2K, SB (2) – The hulking 6’7″- 235 lb. lefty slugged his second home run in his second straight game, plus stole a base, but his two strikeouts on the night bumped Reynolds into the overall minor league lead with 39. In fact, he leads all baseball, including the majors, with Kansas City’s Jorge Soler currently sits at 36. 
  • Trey Cabbage, DH – Cedar Rapids Kernels – Minnesota Twins – – 3-4, HR (6), 2R, 2RBi – – Cabbage’s homer last night (a third inning solo shot) pulled him into a tie for the Midwest League lead with Cleveland’s Will Benson, who blasted four homers April 18 vs. South Bend.
  • Brice Turang, SS – Wisconsin Timber Rattlers – Milwaukee Brewers – – 1-2, 3B, 2R, RBi, 2BB, K, SB (5) – – Milwaukee’s first round draft choice in 2018 hit his first triple on the season last night and is currently riding an eight-game hit streak (12-32; .375) after going 1-20 between April 6 through April 13. 
  • Reggie Pruitt, CF – Lansing Lugnuts – Toronto Blue Jays – – 2-4, 3B, R, RBi, K – 

South Atlantic League: 

  • Samuel Huff, C – Hickory Crawdads – Texas Rangers – – 2-3, HR (7), R, RBi, K – – Huff’s two out solo blast in the fourth helped pad his Sally League home run lead (7). However, his 24 strikeouts to zero walks in his first 17 games is a bit alarming. 
  • Mason Martin, 1B – Greensboro Grasshoppers – Pittsburgh Pirates – – 3-4, HR (4), 2B, 2R, 2RBi, BB, K – – After going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored on Opening Day, Martin batted .143 in his next 13 games (7-for-49). But the 2017 – 17th rounder out of Southridge HS (WA) is batting .539 over his last three (7-for-13), highlighted by homers in three consecutive games.
