April 16, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day*

  • Trey Cabbage, LF – Cedar Rapids Kernels – Minnesota Twins –
    • – 3-6, HR (4), 3B, 2R, 5RBi, 2K
      • – The 21-year-old Knoxville, TN native began the year 11 for his first 25 (.440), then suffered an 0-for-9 skid in his next three games. However, the 2015 – 4th rounder has five hits in his last 10 at-bats over his last two games, including his second homer in as many games and his first triple on the year. Cabbage heads into Wednesday’s games four off the MWL total base lead (35) behind Cardinals top prospect Nolan Gorman

Carolina League:

  • Oscar Gonzalez, LF – Lynchburg Hillcats – Cleveland Indians –
    • – 2-5, HR (1), 2B, 2R, 4RBi, 3K
      • – The Indians unranked prospect popped his first home run of 2019   (a two-out solo shot in the fourth) off Nationals #25 prospect (Pipeline) Kyle Johnston, who now sits at 0-3 on the season with a 9.53 ERA and 2.03 WHIP. Aside from Luis Robert‘s domination of the Carolina League leaderboard, Gonzalez pulled within a three-way tie for second in total bases (29) with Wilmington’s (KC) Kyle Isbel and Frederick (BAL) shortstop Mason McCoy. Now the bad news. Despite the 21-year-old Gonzalez, who hails from the Dominican Republic, batting .345 thus far, he has a 16 strikeouts to zero walks, yet it shouldn’t come as a surprise for those who follow him, as Gonzalez carries a near 7:1 career K:BB ratio.

      • The Phillies unranked prospect now sits one off the FSL total base lead (25) behind only Pittsburgh’s Calvin Mitchell after hitting his second home run this season. But much like the aforementioned Oscar Gonzalez, Stokes could stand to draw a walks, as he carries a 15:0 K:BB mark on the year.
  • Jonathan India, 3B – Daytona Tortugas – Cincinnati Reds –
    • – 4-5, 2B, R
      • – The Reds #4 prospect out of the University of Florida registered the first four-hit game of his minor league career.

Busby’s homer also vaulted him into the FSL lead in home runs.
