April 14, 2019 – Under the Radar Pitcher Performances

TOP NL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

RHP  Luc Rennie (HiA St Lucie – New York Mets) 24 year old
6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 0.82 ERA, Win 2-0
  • Rennie’s only mention here came after his July 22 start last season when he struck out 14 batters in 7 innings with LoA Columbia. It was his first time back pitching in the South Atlantic League since 2014, since the Orioles 16th round pick back in 2012. Baltimore parted ways with the 6′ 2″ 215 right-hander after the 2015 season and Rennie found his way to the Frontier League (Indy Ball). With the Evansville Otters, Rennie spent two seasons and was piecing together a fantastic 2018 season before the Mets took notice and signed him in early July and sent to Columbia. Now in his 6th season and soon-to-be 25 years-old (April 26th), Rennie is off to another good start at HiA St Lucie.

TOP AL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

RHP Nate Pearson (HiA Dunedin – Toronto) 22 years old
5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 0.75 ERA, Win 2-0
  • Fantasy owners better get to know this prospect. If it wasn’t for signability issues, Pearson was projected to the first player off the board during the 2017 draft, but fell to the Blue Jays 27 picks later. Lucky for them, as the 6′ 6″ 245 lb right-hander has been mentioned as a pitcher with the highest ceiling possible. The Blue Jays only got to see the 22 year-old in 1.2 innings last season, where he missed the whole season with a broken ulna. He returned in-time to pitch in the Arizona Fall League where he lit up the radar guns with his 80-grade fastball and touched 104 mph. Pearson comes with the full package; size, stuff, and pitchability. Pearson’s pro resume only includes 13.2 innings at the HiA level, sans the AZL work, which was basically a rehab stint. His stat-line after two starts thus far includes; 2-0, 0.75 ERA, 12 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB , 17 K

6.2 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K, 1.08 ERA, Win 2-1
  • Newsome with another outing racking-up double-digit strikeouts. This gives him 30 K’s in 16. innings with only 2 earned runs and two walks.
