April 13, 2019 – Under the Radar Pitcher Performances

TOP NL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

LHP  Kyle Young (HiA Clearwater – Philadelphia) 21 year old
6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 K, 2.70 ERA, Loss 0-2
  • Young has been the hard-luck loser over his two starts. Lack of run support by the Threshers despite the 22nd round pick (2016) throwing strong outings. In his first two starts, the right-hander has allowed 3 earned runs in 10 innings and 13 strikeouts, with ten last night, nearly missing his career-high (11). Only 21 years-old and standing almost seven-foot tall (6′ 10″), Young is progressing through the Phillies system, posting a 3.18 ERA and a 5.70 K/BB ratio in 161.1 innings over four seasons. Young is still raw though, but already shows solid mechanics and coordination for a very tall righty.

TOP AL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

LHP Konnor Pilkington (LoA Kannapolis – Chicago White Sox) 21 years old
6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 0.77 ERA
  • The 3rd round pick from 2018 didn’t enjoy a pro debut where he posted a 7.07 ERA in only 14 innings. It’s just a small sample, but the White Sox are hoping for big things from 6′ 3 ” 225 lb left-hander. Pilkington came out of Mississippi State and was on the USA Baseball’s 2017 National Collegiate Team.
