April 9, 2019 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day

*Top Hitter of the Day

  • Will Golsan, LF – Asheville Tourists – Colorado Rockies – – 3-5, 2 HR (3), 3R, 6 RBi (Game 1) – – The Rockies unranked prospect is now tied with Samuel Huff (Hickory) and fellow Tourist (and 2018 UTR OAS) Willie MacIver for the South Atlantic League lead in total bases with 18. Not bad for a 23-year-old 26th rounder in 2018 out of Mississippi.

California League:

  • Lazaro Armenteros, LF – Stockton Ports – Oakland Athletics –  – 2-3- HR (1), 2B, 2R, RBi, 2BB, SB (2) –  – After starting off the year with two hits in his first 16 at-bats (.125) the A’s #4 overall prospect appeared to break out of his slump Tuesday afternoon. The 19-year-old Havana, Cuba native clubbed his first home run of the season (a solo shot in the 1st). He drew two walks and struck out in his next three at-bats, then doubled to left in the 9th. Armenteros also stole his second base of the season in the 7th.
  • Olivier Basabe, LF – Lake Elsinore Storm – San Diego Padres –  – 3-5, HR (1), 2R, RBi

He came to Houston with a plus-raw power profile, but has yet to collect an extra-base hit. Add the two together and you have someone who could eventually rocket up the Carolina League leaderboard.
