April 5, 2019 – Under the Radar Pitcher Performances

TOP NL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

LHP Ryan Rolison  (LoA Asheville – Colorado) 21 year old
5 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
  • Rolison is a big, strong left-handed (6′ 2″ 195 lb) pitcher who could develop into an innings-eating, mid-rotation starter. The 21-year old filled the zone last night with five perfect innings and getting four whiffs. Big outings are nothing new for the Rockies’ top draft pick (2018), who threw multiple no-hitters in high school and posted K/BB rates north of 10.0 during his two years at Ole Miss and last season’s pro debut with Grand Junction (Pioneer League). The southpaw flashes outstanding command of his low 90’s fastball, along with with a slider/curveball hybrid.

TOP AL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

RHP Grayson Rodriguez (LoA Delmarva – Baltimore) 19 years old
5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K
  • Another #1 draft choice from the American League getting the top pitching honor. This time the Orioles get to flash the wares of the 6′ 5″ 220 lb Rodriguez, who becomes first starter to reach double-digits strikeouts. Taken from the 2018 draft, the right-hander made his pro debut in the Gulf Coast League and posted a 0-2 record with a 1.40 ERA, along with 7 walks and 20 K’s over 19.1 innings in 9 appearances (8 starts). The 19 year-old already produces a controlled delivery with a steep downhill plane from his imposing frame, which you can recognize from this prospect video. An evolving change-up will provide Rodriguez with a 4-pitch cache that includes a 92-94 plus fastball and decent slider/curveball combo.

American League – Relief

RHP Shawn Semple (LoA Charleston – New York Yankees) 23 years old
 5 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K
  • Semple came in to relieve Matt Sauer after the 4th inning with the RiverDogs leading 4-1. Wondering if the plan was for Semple to go a couple innings, but scrapped after the manager saw he was locked-in.
