Under the Radar Hitters of the Day – July 17, 2018

*Six of the 12 leagues we report on –  the Cal League, Carolina, Midwest, the Appalachian League, Pioneer and the Arizona League –  were off yesterday. But that didn’t leave a shortage of hitters from yesterday’s games*

National League – Top Hitter of the Day

  • Raul Beracierta, RF – Rookie Kingsport (NYM) – Appy League
    • 3-5, 3B, 2B, 2R, 4RBi, K
    • Bericierta came to the Mets organization with athleticism to spare, yet with a lot of rawness to his game. The teenaged Venezuelan signed in December of 2015 and was  sent to the Dominican Summer League in 2016 where he batted a combined .326, hit one home, drove in 23 runs and posted a .397 on-base percentage between the Mets DSL1 and DSL2 squads. The following year in the Gulf Coast League, the 6’0″- 210 lb. righty suffered a sophomore slump, as his batting average fell to a .253 clip and his OB% plummeting 90 points. Yet, the Mets weren’t deterred from promoting him once again, this year to Rookie League Kingsport; and all he’s done is rise to the occasion. In 18 games so far, Bericierta (a primarily pre-season unranked prospect heading into 2018) has more than tripled his pound-for-pound in game production. He’s among the Appy League leaders in runs scored (24), OB% (.519), SLG% (.656), batting (.393) and OPS (1.175).
