- Vilera had his best outing of his pro career last night against Aberdeen (Orioles). The 6’0″ 188 lb righthander matched his career-high with seven innings and set a new high with 9 strikeouts. The Venezuelan should be a fast mover through the Mets system. After spending one season in the DSL, Vilera came state-side and led the GCL in most pitching categories. My system took note, as he was my Mets’ choice for the 2018 “One to Watch”. I would predict that Vilera would crack the Baseball America’s Top 25 next Spring and should find an assignment at LoA Columbia in 2019.
- Ober touches double-digit strikeouts in back-to-back outings. His last time out (July 5th), the 12th round pick in 2017 struck out a career-high 12 batters. Over the last four starts, the towering 6’8″ 215 lb righty has racked up 36 K’s in 23.2 innings with only 3 walks. In his first full season, Ober has posted a misleading 4.36 ERA despite a 9.25 K/BB ratio in 64 innings.
