Under the Radar Hitters of the Day – July 8, 2018

National League – Top Hitter of the Day

  • Joey Bart, C – SS Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (SF) – Northwest League3-5, HR (3), 2B, 3R, 3RBi, K
    • After beginning the season with four hits in his first 18 at-bats (.222), the Giants top pick in the 2018 draft has gotten back on track. The 6’3″- 220 lb. catching star from Georgia Tech has collected eight hits in his last five games (.333) including his first three home runs as a pro. If you’re in a fantasy league that allows minor leaguers, make the 2018 Johnny Bench Award Winner a top priority waiver add. He should move quickly in a system that’s sorely lacking top notch catching depth.

American League – Top Hitter of the Day

  • Tyler Frank, 2B – SS Hudson Valley Renegades (TB) – New York-Penn League2-4, HR (2), R, 5RBi, BB, K
    • When the Tampa Bay Rays selected the 6’0″- 185 lb. righty in the second round of the 2018 draft, they were getting a bat tabbed as average across the board, but on the defensive side of the ball, they were getting an infield utility wizard. The former Florida Atlantic Owl batted .310 with 25 homers and 105 RBi’s in 165 career collegiate games, but his defensive position versatility was the top attribute Frank brought to the field. Manning mostly shortstop in college, Frank has logged time at every infield position except first base for the Renegades this season, yet he’s greatly overplayed his batting profile, as he ranks within the NYPL top 10 in runs scored (14), hits (20), doubles (6), total bases (34), OB% (.417) and slugging (.500), all while drawing as many walks (12) as he has strikeouts (12).
