National League – Top Hitter of the Day

  • Todd Czinege, 1B – LoA Asheville Tourists (COL) – Sally League4-5, HR (1/4), 3B, 2R, 3RBi

American League – Top Hitter of the Day

  • Bobby Dalbec, 3B – HiA Salem Sox (BOS) – Carolina League3-5, HR (19), 3B, 2B, R, 4RBi, 2K
    • Another hitter this week falls a single short of hitting for the cycle. But this isn’t a new thing for the 2016 – 4th rounder out of the University of Arizona. Lately, Dalbec has been the king of extra-bases, as 10 out of his last 11 hits have gone for extra bases, including four home runs in his last five games. five doubles and his only triple on the season last night vs. Potomac. The everyday third baseman for the Salem Sox currently leads the Carolina League in doubles (25), home runs, RBi (70) and sits in the league top five in SLG% (.596) and OPS (.902).

Notes on Pirates Swaggerty, Diamondbacks Yerzy, Rockies Diaz…

  • Travis Swaggerty, CF – SS West Virginia Black Bears (PIT) – New York-Penn League2-4, HR (1), 3B, 2R, 2RBi, K
    • The Pirates number one draft pick in the 2018 draft (South Alabama) blasts his first career home run (a two-run shot in the 3rd inning) and first ever triple last night in a 7-6 victory over Auburn (WAS). Swaggerty is batting an even .300 in 10 games so far for the Black Bears, but currently sits on a .917 fielding percentage with two errors in 24 chances in center field.

  • Andy Yerzy, C – SS Hillsboro Hops (ARI) Northwest League3-5, HR (3), 2B, 2R, RBi, K
    • The Diamondbacks #16 (BA) and #18 (Pipeline) prospect is the quintessential reason why Jim and I suggest readers follow both our in-season and off-season work. In-season is about daily performance. Off-season is about those consistent performers throughout the entire season. That defines Yerzy, as today marks only the second time Arizona’s 2016 – 2nd round pick out of York Mills, Toronto, ON HS, has appeared on this season’s HOD list. He’s batting .342 with nine extra-base hits in 19 games for Short Season Hillsboro, which are numbers, that if sustained, could/would easily land him on our post-season UTR Organizational All-Star list despite the lack of daily mentions. With the injury to Arizona’s top catching prospect Daulton Varsho back in mid-June, where he suffered a fractured hamate bone, Yerzy now takes center stage as the only active (top prospect) ranked catcher in the system.
  • Jared Walker, 1B – HiA Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League3-5, 2 2B, 2R, 5RBi
  • Jenderson Jardines, C – DSL Dodgers Guerrero (LAD) – Dominican Summer League2-3, HR (3) 2R, 2RBi, BB, K

  • Hunter Stovall, 2B – Rookie Grand Junction Rockies (COL) – Pioneer League3-4, 2 HR (1,2), 2R, 4RBi, K
  • Eddy Diaz, 2B – DSL Colorado (COL) – Dominican Summer League3-4, 2B, 2R, BB, 3 SB (37,38,39)
    • Diaz was at it again yesterday, continuing his dominance of the base paths, logging another multi-steal game in the Dominican Summer League. Diaz is also headed toward becoming the overall minor league leader in steals. Houston’s Myles Straw currently sits at 48 steals, with 35 coming in Double-A with Corpus Christi, and 13 as a member of the Astros AAA affiliate Fresno. When you look at the law of averages, I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Diaz will overtake Straw in overall steals within the next 12-14 games. So, I’ll mark July 23 as the day Diaz will be sitting at the top of the minor league stolen base mountain.
  • Yeikel Blandin, CF – DSL Colorado (COL) – Dominican Summer League4-5, 3B, 2R, 2 SB (9,10)
