National League – Top Hitter of the Day
- Jair Camargo, C – Rookie Ogden Raptors (LAD) – Pioneer League
- 2-5, HR (2), 2B, R, 7RBi, 2K
- The newly-turned 19 year old blasted a third inning grand slam to lead the Raptors to a 14-5 rout over the Grand Junction Rockies last night. The right-handed catcher from Colombia is 9-18 (.500) and has collected 14 RBi in his last four games. His only other multi-hit game of the season came on June 16, where he went 2-4 with a triple and a run scored in a 12-4 loss to Idaho Falls (KC). Camargo might have quite a hill to climb however, in an organization that houses several top catching prospects. Led by fellow teenager Keibert Ruiz, who’s batting .248 with six home runs, 22 RBi and 24 runs scored for Double A Tulsa this season, Camargo is also looking up at Ruiz’ teammate and 2016 – 1st rounder out of Louisville, Will Smith, as well as HiA Rancho Cucamonga backstop, Connor Wong, who came to the Dodgers from the University of Houston in 2017 (3rd round).
American League – Top Hitter of the Day
- Heriberto Hernandez, 1B – DSL Rangers2 (TEX) – Dominican Summer League
- For a second day in a row, a hitter falls a single shy of hitting for the cycle
- 3-4, HR (4), 3B, 2B, 3R, 4RBi, BB
- The Rangers teenage utility star from the DSL2 squad is putting up some rather prudent numbers so far in his pro debut. The 6’1″ – 180 lb. Dominican native has logged eight games at first base, four games behind the plate and ten as the team’s designated hitter. However, regardless of the defensive position, he’s getting it done with the bat, hitting an even .300 with 11 of his 21 hits having gone for extra bases (including five home runs, which ranks third in the DSL) and posting 16:17 BB:K ratio.
Notes on Colorado’s Diaz, Tampa Bay’s Hollis…

- I’ve highlighted the young Rockies shortstop several times this season. Six times to be exact and when he’s made my list, it’s because of one thing: speed. The 18-year-old native of Cuba stole his 35th and 36th bases last night, vaulting him into sole possession of second place in all the minors. He now sits nine swipes behind Houston’s Myles Straw (45), however, unlike Diaz, Straw has stolen more than one base in a game only six times this season. Diaz, on the other hand, has stolen two or more bases nine times in 29 games, including one game with three steals and three games with four. So, it’ll be interesting to see who wins the season’s stolen base race; the slow and steady Straw, or the fast and furious Diaz.

- If any readers can help me I’d love to see if someone can find out if a position player, minors or majors, has ever recorded four hits in a game while getting the relief win for their team, like Hollis did last night. The undrafted free agent out of the University of Houston collected four hits last night vs. Burlington, including his second home run on the season, a two-run shot on the ninth, then came on in the eighth, pitched three innings, giving up two hits, an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout and secured a win. Sure, Hollis is a 23-year-old rookie in the Appy League, but anytime you see crooked numbers like this, it’s a lot of fun.
