National League – Top Hitter of the Day: 

• Jason Pineda, 1B – AZL Padres2 (SD) – Arizona League4-5, HR (1), 3B, 2B, 4R, 2RBi, BB
• • Hit for cycle
  • After the 2017 – 17th round pick out of James Monroe HS (Bronx, NY) debuted in the AZL with a .223 batting average in his first taste of pro ball, the Padres felt a repeat of the level for the power-hitting first baseman would be best. So far, he’s proving that maybe an in-season promotion to Short-Season Tri-City might be in short order. The 6’2″ – 200 lb. righty hit two home runs in his first nine games in 2017, but proceeded to go homerless in the following 29 games; and only collected six doubles in that span as well. This season, Pineda is batting .435, already has four extra-base hits (including last night’s home run) among his 10 hits, and he’s drawn an even six walks to six strikeouts, where as last season, Pineda logged 14 walks to 45 K’s in 38 games. 

American League – Top Hitter of the Day: 

• Iverson Leonardo, RF – DSL Tigers2 (DET) – Dominican Summer League2-2, HR (1), 3B, 3R, 4RBi, BB
• • The Tigers signed Leonardo for $275K out of the Dominican Republic soon after he turned the ripe age of 16. There are currently 51 16-year-olds on the hitter side in the DSL and Leonardo ranks second in batting amongst the age grouping with a .304 average. (Luis Silva from the DSL Brewers is batting .333). The 6’0″ – 175 lb. lefty brings super speed to the field and the potential to hit for some power as he fills out.
