National League – Top Hitter of the Day:

  • The Diamondbacks #3 (Pipeline) and #4 (BA) prospect is finally having the season the organization hoped for when they signed him out of the Bahamas back in 2015. The 5’11” – 165 lb. lefty’s 11 homers ranks third in the Midwest League and Chisholm also sits within the league’s top 10 in total bases (110). And it’s all a good sign from a prospect who’s lost as much developmental time as Chisholm has, playing in only 29 of Kane County’s 137 games last season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee. 

American League – Top Hitter of the Day: 

• Jacob Pearson, DH – LoA Cedar Rapids Kernels (MIN) – Midwest League
  • 4-5, HR (2), 3B, 3R, 3RBi 
  • The Angels traded the 6’1″ – 185 lb. lefty bat to Minnesota last off-season for $1M international bonus money to assist them in their pursuit of Shohei Ohtani. Since becoming a Twin, Pearson hasn’t disappointed. The former Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year doesn’t wow you with tools, (he did struggle in his pro debut with the AZL Angels, batting .226 with only eight extra-base hits in 40 games), but there really isn’t anything Pearson doesn’t do well, which fits perfectly into the UTR wheelhouse. His only “knock” (eye-roll) is his age/level number, but regardless of that, he has a plus-hit tool, big-time speed, double-digit homer potential, great range in centerfield and an average arm. A nice (dare I say ‘sleeper’) prospect now in an organization that’s not afraid to aggressively promote their kids. Should be on all deep-level prospect watch lists.
