Under the Radar Hitters of the Day – June 12, 2018

National League – Top Hitter of the Day:

  • Jaime Perez, RF – DSL Dodgers Guerrero (LAD) – Dominican Summer League3-3, HR (3), 2B, 2R, 4RBi, BB, SB (1)
    • When it comes to pound-for-pound, in-game production, there isn’t a prospect so far that’s put up equal numbers in the DSL this season like the Havana, Cuba native. Signed out of Cuba in July 2017, Perez was directly assigned to the DSL Dodgers2 squad and struggled in his first taste of pro ball, batting .207 with two home runs and 47 strikeouts in 44 games. This season (for the newly renamed Dodgers Guerrero) he’s a totally different prospect, ranking fourth in hitting (.444) with five of his eight hits going for extra bases. He’s scored 10 runs and driven in 11 in only six games, has a .545 on-base percentage and a carries whopping 1.601 OPS.

American League – Top Hitter of the Day:

  • Raider Uceta, RF – DSL Angels (LAA) – Dominican Summer League4-5, 3 2B, 2R, 2RBi
    • With probably one of the cooler names in all the minors, the Angels signed Uceta out of the Dominican Republic for (an even cooler) $500K in July 2017. The (already) huge 17-year-old’s (6’1″- 215 lb.) calling card is his plus-plus natural power from the left side of the plate. He’s considered a “power-over-hit” prospect at the moment with below average speed for an outfielder. Keep an eye on him. If he has success in the DSL (low K rate, high on-base percentage), he could see a shift stateside to the GCL this year or an an aggressive move straight to Rookie Orem to start 2019.

National League:

Braxton Davidson, 1B – HiA Florida FireFrogs (ATL) – Florida State League1-2, HR (9), R, 2RBi, B, K
