May 14, 2018 – Under the Radar Pitcher Performances

CO-TOP NL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

RHP Brian Shaffer (LoA Kane County – Arizona) 21 year old
5.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K, 2.45 ERA, Win 4-1
  • Since giving up 6 earned runs during his second start of the season, the 6th round pick in 2017 has been rolling. His last five starts have posted a 1.29 ERA (4 ER in 28 IP) with 29 strikeouts and 8 walks, while holding opposing batters to a .210 average. In 10 short stint starts ( 13 apps) in 2017, over two rookie levels, the 6’5″ 200 lb right-hander logged 26 K’s and only one walk in 24 innings.
RHP Ramon Rosso (LoA Lakewood – Philadelphia) 21 year old
6 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 11 K, 0.93 ERA
  • The Phillies quickly brought Rosso state-side in 2017 after only 9 starts in the Dominican Summer League. Across 3 levels, the 6’4″ 215 lb posted a 1.31 ERA with 105 strikeouts over 75.2 innings in 15 appearances with 14 starts. My system struck upon the Dominican native as the “One to Watch” for 2018, this coming after being named as a 2017 UTR Organizational All-Star. He has already marked two double-digit strikeout games in his first full season, but hasnt broken his career-high of 13 K’s, which occured during a DSL start. Rosso was also the Phillies UTR Top “Minors” National League Pitcher for April 2018.

TOP AL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE

RHP Brusdar Graterol (LoA Cedar Rapids – Minnesota) 19 year old
5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K, 0.63 ERA, Win 1-0
  • It was a big night in LoA ballparks last night with 3 UTR pitchers mowing down 32 batters in 17.1 combined innings. Also toss-in St Louis Cardinals’ Alex Reyes 12 K’s in 5 innings during his rehab start with LoA Peoria. Graterol returned from a 7-day DL stint from back spasms last night and set a career-high with 10 K’s and picking up his first win. The 5th ranked prospect in the Twins system missed the whole 2016 season after coming over from the DSL. He posted a 2.70 ERA across two levels in 2017 along with a 3.46 K/BB ratio in 10 appearances (7 starts).
