- The Cuban lefty has seen his ups-and-downs lately at HiA, but that’s to be expected for youngest arm in the California League. The 5th ranked prospect in the Padres system only seen 13 starts during his pro debut last season, with short-season Tri-City (7 starts) and LoA Fort Wayne (6 starts).
- King saw his first action as a starter last season with the Miami Marlins. He made multiple UTR mentions in 2017, which “would have” translated into the top UTR Organizational All-Star spot for the Marlins. Would have….because the 12th round pick (2016) out of Boston College was traded to the Yankees (Garrett Cooper/Caleb Smith), thus disqualifying him for the honor. The 6’3″ 210 lb righty had his longest outing of his career last night and his second straight scoreless outing. He took the no-decision though, as he was locked in a pitchers duel with Reds prospect Tony Santillan (see below). King leads the Florida State League with 42 strikeouts in 32.1 innings.
