Over the past few seasons, we occasionally get asked why don’t we continue tracking our UTR kids into Double-A. The main focus of our work is strictly on players within the low minors that fall under the criteria set forth when we launched the site, prior to the 2014 season. We hone on the kids that are under 25 years old, drafted beyond the 5th round, and not ranked within the organization’s top ten. The latter we offer some latitude, but do attempt to shy away from those in the top five. When we offer our seasons-end UTR Organizational All-Star rosters, we then ignore the criteria, only to show how the true under the radar kids line-up against those highly touted top prospects.
I decided to give Double-A tracking a shot for 2018. So far, the extra work hasn’t inhibited my regular low minors tracking efforts. But I am throwing caution into the wind, for when the DSL and Rookie Leagues begin their play. So using my daily spreadsheet tracking methods, here are those pitchers making early noise in Double-A. I am not using our criteria, but I did eliminate 25 year old and older from my spreads.
