Under the Radar Hitters of the Day – April 27, 2018

National League – Top Hitters of the Day:

  • Gavin Lux, SS – HiA Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League
    • 3-5, HR (1), 2B, R, 5RBi, BB, 2K
    • After starting the year 1-for-20 (.050), the Dodgers 2016 first-rounder has since collected a hit in all but two games this season (April 16 v. Lancaster; April 25 v. Stockton). I like Lux. There are a lot of questions about his game, both offensively and on defense. However, all of his current shortcomings can be corrected. If matches all the pieces of his puzzle, he could be a fringe all-star in L.A.

National League:

  • Andres Gimenez, SS – HiA St. Lucie Mets (NYM) – Florida State League
    • 1-2, HR (2), 2R, RBi, BB

  • Henri Lartigue, C – HiA Clearwater Threshers (PHI) – Florida State League
    • 3-4, HR (3), R, RBi, BB
  • Bryan Mejia, 2B – HiA Potomac Nationals (WAS) – Carolina League
    • 2-5, HR (1), 2R, 4RBi
  • Jose Garcia, SS – LoA Dayton Dragons (CIN) – Midwest League
    • 3-5, 2B, 3R, RBi
  • Ryan Aguilar, CF – HiA Carolina Mudcats (MIL) – Carolina League
    • 2-5, HR (3), R, 4RBi, 2K
  • Tucker Neuhaus, 2B – HiA Carolina Mudcats (MIL) – Carolina League
    • 2-5, HR (1), 2B, R, RBi, 2K
  • Tristen Lutz, CF – LoA Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL) – Midwest League
    • 2-3, HR (2), 2B, 4R, RBi, BB
  • Gilbert Lara, 3B – LoA Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL) – Midwest League
    • 4-5, 2B, 2R, 3RBi, K
  • KJ Harrison, DH – LoA Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL) – Midwest League
    • 3-5, 2 2B, 2R, 2RBi
  • Cal Mitchell, RF – LoA West Virginia Power (PIT) – Sally League
    • 4-5, 2 2B, R, RBi
    • There may not be a hotter player in the minors so far this season than the Pirates current #16 prospect. Mitchell, a 2017 – second rounder out of Rancho Bernardo HS (CA) sits among the (pure) minors leaders in total bases (55), ranking behind only San Diego’s Josh Naylor (58) and Nationals phenom outfield prospect Juan Soto (57). If you’re in a league that houses minors and you have room, add him.
  • Ryan McCarvel, 1B – HiA Palm Beach Cardinals (STL) – Florida State League
    • 2-4, HR (2), R, 2RBi, K
  • Julio Rodriguez, C – LoA Peoria Chiefs (STL) – Midwest League
    • 2-4, HR (3), R, 3RBi
  • Marcus Wilson, CF – HiA Visalia Rawhide (ARI) – Cal League
    • 2-3, HR (2), 2B, 2R, RBi, BB
  • Forrest Wall, CF – HiA Lancaster Jethawks (COL) – Cal League
    • 2-4, 3B, RRBi, 2BB, K
  • Brian Serven, C – HiA Lancaster Jethawks (COL) – Cal League
    • 2-4, HR (2), 2B, 2R, RBi, K
  • Rylan Bannon, 3B – HiA Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League
    • 1-3, HR (8), 2R, 2RBi, BB, K
  • Cristian Santana, 1B – HiA Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League
    • 1-5, HR (3), R, 2RBi, BB, 3K
  • Hamlet Marte, DH – HiA Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League
    • 3-4, 2B, 3R, 3RBi, BB, K
  • Carlos Belen, 1B – LoA Fort Wayne Tin Caps (SD) – Midwest League
    • 2-3, HR (3), R, 2RBi, BB, K

American League – Top Hitter of the Day:

  • Nathaniel Lowe, 1B – HiA Charlotte Stone Crabs (TB) – Florida State League
    • 4-5, 2 HR (3,4), 2B, 3R, 6RBi, K
    • Brother to teammate Josh (seen below), older sibling Nathaniel has been quite the streaky hitter for the Stone Crabs this season. He began the year by collecting eight hits in his first 15 at-bats  (.533), then proceeded to gather only four hits in his next four games. In a four-game stretch from April 15 through April 19, the 2016 – 13th rounder from Mississippi State went 11-for-18 (.611). Last night was Lowe’s first four-hit effort of the season. It’s all in the averages, however, as Lowe leads the FSL in batting (.390), hits (32) total bases (51) and OPS (1.078).

  • Seamus Curran, 1B – LoA Delmarva Shorebirds (BAL) – Sally League

    •  2-3, 2B, 2R, RBi, BB, SB (1)
  • Josh Lowe, CF – HiA Charlotte Stone Crabs (TB) – Florida State League
    • 3-5, 2B, 3R, RBi, SB (7)
