TOP NL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE RHP Ramon Rosso (LoA Lakewood – Philadelphia) 22 year old 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 12 K, 1.86 ERA
- 2017 UTR Organizational All-Star is off to a fast start in his first taste of full season ball. Rosso quickly made his way from the DSL to short-season Williamsport last season and racked-up 105 K’s over 75.2 innings. His 12 strikeouts last night were the most in the States, but was just shy of the 13 K’s during his last DSL start before coming stateside. I named the 6’4″ 215 lb righty as the Phillies “One to Watch” for 2018.
- Luzardo came over to the Athletics from Washington last season in the Sean Doolittle & Ryan Madson trade. After only three GCL starts with the Nationals, the then 19 year-old impressed the Oakland staff by posting a 1.82 ERA and striking out 33 with only 5 walks in 29.2 innings over two rookie levels. They skipped him over LoA Beloit to start the season as the opening day starter for the Ports, where he was the hard luck loser (4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K)
HiA Mentions – Starters RHP Emerson Martinez (LoA Down East – Texas) 23 years old 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 0.90 ERA Win 1-1 LHP Alex Wells (HiA Frederick – Baltimore) 21 years old 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1.74 ERA
