RF – Mason House – S/L – AZL2 Top 5 Starting Pitchers – (Factor Score) / Highest Level Attained 1. RHP Jesse Scholtens – (21) / HiA Lake Elsinore 2. LHP Joey Lucchesi – (20) / AA San Antonio 3. RHP Pedro Avila – (20) / HiA Lake Elsinore “Watch Worthy” **As a 19-year old, Avila was handling hitters in the South Atlantic League with LoA Hagerstown (Washington). I had tagged him prior to that season as the Nationals “One to Watch” and he was sent to the Padres in the Derek Norris trade at the end of the season. The Padres aggressively assigned right-hander to HiA Lake Elsinore, where he continue to surprise, but was sent down to Fort Wayne to finish the season. His trajectory will continue to climb as his curveball was rated the best in the system. At only 21 years-old for the whole 2018 season, consideration may be given for Avila to repeat as a “One to Watch” for his new team for 2018. 4. LHP Logan Allen – (19) / HiA Lake Elsinore 5. RHP Cal Quantrill – (17) / AA San Antonio Top 3 Relief Pitchers – (Factor Score) / Highest Level Attained 1. RHP David Bednar – (14) / HiA Lake Elsinore 2. RHP Hansel Rodriguez – (12) / LoA Fort Wayne ** Rodriguez was “Just off my Scope” in 2016 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He found his way to San Diego in the swap of Melvin Upton in July 2016. 3. RHP Colby Blueberg – (11) / HiA Lake Elsinore ” Take a Flyer” **After last season, I drafted the #1 UTR-OAS relief pitcher and “Legit UTR” Phil Maton to my keeper roster, and he went on to appear in 46 games with the Padres. Maton was a UTR-OAS for the 2015 & 2016 seasons, and in 2015, had Colby Blueberg right on his heels at #2. Blueberg just missed the OAS roster last season, but returns after repeating at HiA Lake Elsinore.
