National League – Top Hitter of the Day 

• Mason Martin, 1B – GCL Pirates (PIT) – GCL/Northwest

  • After beginning the season 1-13 (.077), the 2017 draft pick out of Southridge HS (WA) is now entrenched in a 9-game hit streak, including four multi-hit games. Twelve of his 18 hits this season are of extra bases and he’s smashed a Gulf Coast League leading seven home runs. This shouldn’t come as a surprise because the 6’0″- 200 lb. 18-year-old came to the Pirate organization with a scouting report of huge raw power. Martin currently holds a .400 batting average and in only 13 games this season, he already ranks fifth in the GCL with 44 total bases. So far, Martin looks like an absolute steal as a 17th rounder.

  • Normally I wouldn’t place a player on my daily list who collected a solitary hit with a run scored in five at-bats, but the 16-time UTR HOD mention, 2014 UTR Breakout selection and 2015 Organizational All-Star here at UTRMinors, made it 33 games in a row and Siri now sits two games behind the Midwest League record of 35 (Tony Toups – Waterloo – 1977). In a league boasting top prospects Bo Bichette and Fernando Tatis Jr., Siri deserves equal attention, as he leads the league with 198 total bases 29 steals, ranks second with 18 home runs.
