  • Strotman is the first of the 2017 draft class to receive the UTR POD mention. A 4th round pick by the Rays, Strotman only made 14 starts during his 59 appearances with Saint Mary’s College of California. Seven of those starts came during his final season (Junior) where he went 6-1 with a 4.57 ERA and a 4.25 K/BB ratio. As a consistent starter, the 6′ 3″- 195 lb. right-hander shined during his two Summers in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League. Over the last two season in the CRCBL, Strotman went 7-4 with a 2.44 ERA over 17 appearances with 14 starts and a 7.59 K9 and 2.3 BB9 rates. The California native has now made two consecutive scoreless starts with 3 hits, 10 K’s, and only 2 walks over 11 innings.

LoA
RHP Pedro Avila (Fort Wayne – San Diego) 20 years old
7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 11 K, Win
Season Stats: 6-5, 4.50 ERA, 84 IP, 89 H, 42 ER, 25 BB, 106 K in 17 appearances with 16 starts
  • This is Avila’s 4th POD mention and third since his demotion from HiA Lake Elsinore. Though he posted pedestrian numbers during his initial 2016 assignment with the Storm, the California League proved to be too much for the 20 year old, who was traded from the Nationals during the off-season. Only making 14 appearances from the DSL and GCL combined in 2015, Avila impressed my system to be named  2016 “One to Watch” for the Nats. The right-hander came through with that prediction with the LoA Hagerstown in 2016 and became a 2016 UTR Organizational All-Star before the trade for Derek Norris. Continue to watch Avila as he looks to be finally settling in with his new organization. Over his last three starts, he’s allowed only one earned run with 29 strikeouts and 2 walks over 20 innings.
