TOP NL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE RHP Mike O’Reilly (LoA Peoria – St Louis) 22 years old 9 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, Win Season Stats: 4-1, 1.69 ERA, 48 IP, 31 H, 9 ER, 4 BB, 42 K in 9 appearances with 6 starts
- O’Reilly gets his 4th win in as many decisions and pulls his ERA below 2.00 after allowing the most earned runs (3) of his career during his last start. The 27th round selection from 2016 was moved into the Chiefs rotation in early May and rolled to a 3-1 record and 1.83 ERA. In those 34.1 innings, O’Reilly posted a 37:1 K:BB rate and 0.76 WHIP. He went the distance for the first time last night, but almost pulled that feat on May 20th, when he took a no-hit bid into the 9th innings; but was yanked after allowing a base hit. O’Reilly was just named to the Cardinal’s Top UTR Pitcher for May, which was posted last night. This is the 2nd UTR-POD mention for O’Reilly – May 20th.
- Gonzalez keeps pace with teammate Jordan Humphreys and Reds’ UTR Scott Moss with a league-leading 8th win. The 14th ranked prospect once again was the UTR Top Pitching Prospect for the Month (May). The non-drafted free agent signee in 2013 spent all last season with Brooklyn (NYPL) and was a 2015 UTR Organizational All-Star.
TOP AL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE RHP Carson LaRue (LoA Quad Cities – Houston) 21 years old 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, Win Season Stats: 7-1, 2.18 ERA, 57.2 IP, 36 H, 14 ER, 18 BB, 54 K in 11 appearances with 8 starts
- The River Bandits have been utilizing LaRue as a swingman, but he’s proving to be solid in the starting role. In 8 starts, the 14th round pick (2016) is 6-1 with a 2.00 ERA and quite stingy allowing only 27 hits over 45 innings. In short stints from the relief role, the righty has given up 9 hits over 12.2 innings (3 appearances) and a 2.84 ERA. This is his first full season after seeing only 4 appearances across two levels in 2016 with the GCL Astros and Appy League Greeneville.
