National League – Top Hitter of the Day
- Cole Tucker, SS – HiA Bradenton Marauders (PIT) – Florida State League/South
- 4-6, 2 HR (2), 3B, 2B, 3R, 7RBi, K
The 2014 – 1st rounder was a single shy of hitting for the cycle heading into the bottom of the 8th inning Friday night versus Palm Beach. Yet, the Mountain Pointe HS (AZ) draftee settled for a solo home run, his second of the night, to help cap off a 20-2 drubbing of the Cardinals. What’s even more incredible about Tucker’s career night at the plate was that his production all came within four innings of work.
The switch-hitter began by striking out swinging in the bottom of the 1st. Then to start the 4th, he flew out to right field, but after Tucker’s fly-out, the Marauder mauling commenced. By the time Tucker stepped up to the plate again, it was still the 4th inning, and the FSL/South division leading Marauders had already plated five one-out runs. Tucker’s first hit of the night, his seventh double of the season, plated three more, making it 8-0. Tucker then belted his first home run of the season in the 6th inning, then clubbed his third triple of the season, which scored what would be the first of four more runs in the 7th.
American League – Top Hitter of the Day
- Jorge Mateo, SS – HiA Tampa Yankees (NYY) – Florida State League/North
- 4-6, 2 HR (2), 2B, 2R, 2RBi
- Amazingly similar are the numbers of today’s Top Hitter’s of the Day. Both Tucker and Mateo head into today’s games each with seven doubles, three triples and both prospects (Mateo #4/#4 – BA/Pipeline, and Tucker #8/#5 BA/Pipeline) hit their first two home runs of the season last night. Tucker and Mateo also rank 1st and 2nd respectively in the FSL in stolen bases (Tucker -24, Mateo -15).
