American League – Top Hitter of the Day 

  • Jason Martin, LF – HiA Buies Creek Astros (HOU) – Carolina League/Southern 
    • 3-6, 3 HR (5), 3R, 5RBi, K
    • The 5’11”- 190 lb. lefty was part of a collective wrecking crew Sunday, as the Buies Creek Astros (20-11) combined to slug seven homes runs in a 12-6 victory over Southern Division rival (and Chicago Cubs affiliate) Myrtle Beach (17-14). Martin, an unranked prospect (Baseball America) heading into the 2017 season, ranks in the Carolina League top five in runs scored and homers.

    • It’s been business as usual for the 2016 UTR OAS  first baseman. Mundell finished last season in record fashion with 59 doubles, yet pound-for-pound, when working the percentages, he’s having equally as productive a year in the Cal League, presently ranking fourth in hits (39), second in home runs, RBi’s (27) and first in total bases (63).

    • The Yankee’s #4 prospect (Baseball America) is struggling at the plate in a repeat of the Florida State League this season. Mateo is batting only .222 in 29 games so far after batting .321 in the last 21 games of the 2015 season and .254 for all of 2016. However, Mateo’s speed is clearly present with 15 steals, which ranks second behind Bradenton’s (PIT) Cole Tucker

    • The 2015 and 2016 UTR OAS slugged his first home run of the season.

Hitter of the Day, St. Lucie’s Patrick Mazeika.
