  • The son of Hall of Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, Dereck was once a 5-tool outfield prospect when the Twins drafted him out of high school in 2011. He struggled at the plate and the change to the mound occurred in 2014. Rodriguez settled into the new role very nicely, capturing 2015 Pitcher of the Year honors in the Appy League. He posted pedestrian numbers in 2016, but shined during a five-start stint at Fort Meyers. He’s still working on refining his secondaries, but his fastball ranges in the low-to-mid 90’s. Rodriguez has strung together decent outings his last five times out, but his ceiling remains as a bullpen arm.

 American League – Starters
LHP Gregory Soto (LoA West Michigan – Detroit) 22 years old
6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 8 K, Win 3-0, 0.00 ERA
  • When you give up five walks, your name usually won’t appear on this list, but I couldn’t pass up the unusual stat line by Soto. He allowed eight base runners yesterday afternoon, but still has not surrendered an earned run yet this season. In five starts, over 28 innings, one unearned run has crossed the plate on the left-hander in the 13 hits and 15 walks he’s issued. Soto occupies the #30 slot in the Tigers system.
