TOP NL UTR PITCHING PERFORMANCE LHP Nick Fanti (LoA Lakewood – Philadelphia) 20 years old 8.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, Win Season Stats: 2-0, 1.48 ERA, 30.1 IP, 14 H, 5 ER, 10 BB, 31 K in 5 starts
- Fanti is my “One to Watch” for 2017 and the Columbia (NYM) fans were watching him rip through the Fireflies lineup, not allowing a hit over 8.2 innings. He gave up a walk in the 9th which placed two runners-on; the first batter reached on an error and a later fielders choice. He had thrown 113 pitches and the Lakewood manager decided to pull Fanti and allow Trevor Bettencourt to get the last out and cap the no-hitter. The 31st rounder (2015) had a coming out party in 2016 with the GCL Phillies. He made 11 appearances (9 starts) and posted a 1.57 ERA over 51.2 innings. The lefty led the league with 67 strikeouts and second in ERA (1.51) behind fellow Phillie Sixto Sanchez.
