Under the Radar Hitters of the Day – April 28, 2017

National League- Top Hitter of the Day

American League – Top Hitter of the Day

  • Chris DeVito, 1B – LoA Lexington Legends (KC) – Sally League/Southern
    • 3-5, 2 HR (7), 2B, 3R, 6RBi
    • With one of the best raw power bats in the Royals system, the near universally  unranked University of New Mexico draftee (2016 – 8th round) overtook the South Atlantic Lead with two home runs  versus Northern Division-leading Hagerstown last night. The 22-year-old left slugger also leads the Sally with 56 total bases and ranks second with a 1.005 OPS.

Notes on Josh Naylor, Desmond Lindsay, Ibandel Isabel

National League:

  • I’ll begin by noting that the Braves HiA affiliate laid down an 18-0 drubbing on Lakeland last night, hence the barrage of Braves prospects to begin today’s honorary listing…

  • Jonathan Morales, C – HiA Florida Firefrogs (ATL) – Florida State League/North
    • 3-4, 2B, 2R, 3RBi
  • Ronald Acuna, CF – HiA Florida Firefrogs (ATL) – Florida State League/North
    • 3-6, 3B, 3R, RBi, 2K
  • Austin Riley, 3B – HiA Florida Firefrogs (ATL) – Florida State League/North
  • Braxton Davidson, LF – HiA Florida Firefrogs (ATL) – Florida State League/North
    • 4-4, HR (1), 3R, 3RBi, 2BB
  • Carlos Castro, 1B – HiA Florida Firefrogs (ATL) – Florida State League/North
    • 4-6, HR (2), 2B, 2R, 4RBi, K
  • Alay Lago, 2B – HiA Florida Firefrogs (ATL) – Florida State League/North
    • 5-6, 2R, 2 SB (2)
  • Anthony Concepcion, 1B – LoA Rome Braves (ATL) – Sally League/Southern
    • 1-2, HR (2), 2R, 4RBi, 2BB
  • Desmond Lindsay, CF – LoA Columbia Fireflies (NYM) – Sally League/Southern
    • 1-2, HR (2), 3R, 2RBi, 2BB, SB (3)
    • The 2016 UTR OAS selection and Mets #4 prospect (Baseball America) is finally starting to come life after an abysmal start to the 2017 season. The 2015 – 2nd rounder began the year with just six hits in his first 42 at-bats (.143). Despite his .180 average, Lindsay is batting .263 over his last seven games (5-19) with a homer in two consecutive games, along with his second and third stolen base of the season. His five runs-batted in versus Hickory on the 27th was more than he had in his previous 17 games.
  • Daniel Johnson, CF – LoA Hagerstown Suns (WAS) – Sally League/Northern
    • 2-4, HR (6), 2B, 2R, 2RBi
  • Tyler Alamo, C – HiA Myrtle Beach Pelicans (CHC) – Carolina League/Southern
    • 2-5, HR (3), R, 4RBi
  • Corey Ray, CF – HiA Carolina Mudcats (MIL) – Carolina Laeague/Southern
    • 3-6, 2 2B, R, 2RBi, SB (4)
  • Will Craig, 1B – HiA Bradenton Marauders (PIT) – Florida State League/South
    • 3-5, HR (1), R, 3RBi
  • Tommy Edman, SS – LoA Peoria Chiefs (STL) – Midwest League/Western
  • Andy Young, 2B – LoA Peoria Chiefs (STL) – Midwest League/Western
    • 2-4, HR (2), R, 3RBi, BB, 2K
  • Brendan Rodgers, SS – HiA Lancaster Jethawks (COL) – Cal League/South
    • 3-5, 2 2B, 2R, 2RBi, 2K
  • Brian Mundell, 1B – HiA Lancaster Jethawks (COL) – Cal League/South
  • Yonathan Daza, RF – HiA Lancaster Jethawks (COL) – Cal League/South
    • 4-5, 3R, 2RBi
  • Will Smith, C – HiA Rancho Cucomonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League/South
    • 1-3, HR (4), 3R, RBi, BB, 2K
  • DJ Peters, CF – HiA Rancho Cucomonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League/South
  • Ibandel Isabel, 1B – HiA Rancho Cucomonga Quakes (LAD) – Cal League/South
    • 3-5, HR (7), 2B, R, 5RBi, K
    • The 21 year-old out of the Dominican Republic, and 2016 UTR OAS selection, leads the California League in home runs, and comes in second in total bases (44) and slugging percentage (.611), behind only teammate Will Smith. Fifty percent of Isabel’s hits are of extra-base variety and he ranks third in OPS (.953). Not bad from a widely unranked prospect coming into 2017.
  • Josh Naylor, 1B – HiA lake Elsinore Storm (SD) – Cal League/South
    • 3-5, HR (5), 3B, 3R, 3RBi
    • I’m not sure there’s a hotter hitter currently in the low minors than Naylor. The 2015 – 1st rounder out of St. Joan of Arc (ON, Canada) has collected at least two hits in six out of his last seven games. He’s also slugged three of his five home runs on the season during this span and has raised his batting average 105 points over his last 10 games.
