August 7, 2016 – Under the Radar Pitcher Performances

BIG day for the American League UTR’s, especially Tampa Bay. Today marks the final week of tracking for UTR pitchers. My final in-season post will be Sunday August 14th, which will cover the games from Saturday night. Stay tuned for the Top American League UTR Pitchers in July which I’m currently wrapping-up. The National League can be found here.

Short-Season League
LHP Travis Ott (NY-Penn League Hudson Valley – Tampa Bay)

Yes…that correct. Only one earned run over 41.2 innings equals 0.22 ERA. Four of his six starts were six inning shutouts.

LoA
RHP Shao-Ching Chiang (Lake County – Cleveland) 22 years old
7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 3.90 ERA, Win 7-9

HiA
RHP Greg Harris (Charlotte – Tampa Bay) 21 years old
7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 3.61 ERA, Win 8-6
The 17th round pick in 2013 was a faint signal on my radar during his debut season with the AZL Dodgers. The TPS system picked up something with Harris, as the Dodgers assigned the then 19 year old to LoA Great Lakes to begin the 2104 season. The signal became much stronger when he qualified as an Under the Radar Organizational All-Star at seasons end. I had to omit Harris from the list because he was traded to Tampa Bay in November, but he became a 2015 UTR-OAS as he made his way to HiA Charlotte. I’m waiting to see where TPS places him after this season, but in my opinion….Harris could be a very solid back of the rotation type for the Rays.
