June 10, 2016 – Under the Radar Pitcher Performances

All-Star season is coming upon us…..and this morning, I posted the UTR’s that will grace the HiA Florida State League roster. That article can be found here. More roster breakdowns to come as the rest of HiA and LoA Leagues will play their mid-season games on June 21st.

As a bonus, I also wrote a piece on Pittsburgh’s past uber prospect Luis Heredia, who will make his first All-Star game appearance after years of bumps. Look for that to be posted soon.

RHP Wirkin Estevez (HiA Potomac – Washington) 24 years old
2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Marc will remember this name, as I highly touted this kid coming out the DSL after the 2010 season. Prior to the 2011 season, I tagged Estevez as a possible Breakout candidate at MLBDepthCharts.com and he had a solid season with short-season Auburn as a 19 year old. He struggled with his control in 2012 during his first full season at LoA Hagerstown, but something occurred toward the end the season. He was sent to the the GCL Nationals in August and then fall off the radar. He had Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2013 and didnt return until late June 2014 and only pitched 24.1 innings. Complications must have occurred, as he missed the 2015 season. His development begins a square one this season, but Nationals assigned him to the bullpen for Potomac.
