Normally I’d give you the top hitters of the day for the N.L. and A.L., but this weekend marks a special weekend that comes once every summer. The time I get together with friends to see several ballgames across Central Pennsylvania.
Last night, had the pleasure of seeing Pirate Double-A affiliate Altoona. In a matchup that pitted the top two teams in the Eastern League’s Western Division, the Altoona Curve scored an 8-5 victory over the Bowie Bay Sox (Baltimore). After seeing several 2014 Organizational All-Stars in Bowie first baseman Trey Mancini (2-4, K), third baseman Drew Dosch (0-3, K), right fielder Mike Yastrzemski (1-4, R, K), and Altoona second baseman Max Moroff (3-5, R, 2RBi, K), it was absolutely clear who the top prospect was on the field last night. Folks, Pirates RHP Tyler Glasnow is everything as advertised. He was absolutely brilliant tossing 6 innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts. Of the 6’8″ – 225 lb. beast’s 82 pitches, 60 were strikes. He mixed his low 90’s fastball (dialing up to 97 on a few occasions) with a big curve ball and a changeup that had Bowie hitters off balance all night. What s spectacle and Pirate fans have A LOT to look forward to in this kid.
Today we’re in “the Burgh” to catch the Pirates and Cardinals. We get to see a John Lackey match up with 2015 All-Star A.J. Burnett.
So, this means tomorrow, Sunday, is a very heavy travel day for me. Therefore I’ll be bypassing UTR HOD until Monday submission. Jim has had an incredible amount of work commitments recently and a busy weekend lined up as well. He’ll be back soon.
Until then, take a break from UTR, relax, watch a game or two and we’ll catch you right back here on Monday.
