American League – Top Hitter of the Day

  • Ledarius Clark, CF – Short Season Spokane (TEX) – Northwest League – 21 yo;
    • 4-5, 2 HR (5), 2B, 3R, 2RBi, SB (12)
    • With nearly three weeks of Class-A Short Season ball in the books, the 2015 Northwest League batting leaderboard has been nothing short of the Ledarius Clark Show.  The 2015 – 12th rounder out of the University of West Florida leads the league in hits (34), batting, (.436), runs scored (28), home runs (5), stolen bases (12), on-base percentage (.500), slugging (.731) and OPS (1.231).  Is it too early to crown the 5’9″ – 180 lb. righty the NWL League MVP or a Texas top prospect? Certainly, but it’s this kind of production that forces you to stray away from the polished draft pedigree, which feeds into the vision of what Jim and I do. Keep a close eye on him.

    • 3-4, HR (1), 2B, R, 2RBi, BB

    • 3-5, HR (1), 2R, 2RBi
  • Gabriel Mejia, CF – AZL Indians (CLE) – Rookie Arizona League – 19 yo;
    • 2-2, 2R, 2RBi, 3BB, 4 SB (16)
    • The 5’11” – 160 lb. Dominican has collected 16 stolen bases in 12 games so far this season, which shouldn’t be a surprise. He averages a smidge over a stolen base per game in his career (88/SB:82/G = 1.07 SB/G ) after swiping 72 bags in his 2014 debut in the Dominican Summer League. This is UTRMinors and it’s my job to point out under-the-radar talent.  Interesting to point out that Reds superstar centerfielder Billy Hamilton stole 395 bases in 502 career games = .79 SB/G. Some food for thought.
  • Jheyser Azuaje, 1B – VSL Tigers (DET) – Venezuelan Summer League – 18 yo;
