June 10, 2015 – Under the Radar Pitcher Performances (Local MLB Draft Picks)

 by Jim Brown
MLB teams are assessing their recent draft picks and it won’t be long before Marc and I start seeing new names cropping up in the boxscores when the Rookie League begin their schedules. Marc is probably unaware from his home-base in upstate NY, that two players were drafted out of our old backyard…one for him to track, the other for me. RHP Chad Luensmann, a senior out of Bellwood-Antis HS was taken by the NY Mets in the 39th round. There’s a question of signability, as the 6’3″ 170lb righty has a commitment to attend the University of Nebraska It could be a tough choice for Luensmann, as he has the opportunity to pitch to the hometown folks when the Huskers make a visit to Big Ten Penn State. On the hitters side for Marc, its former State College HS grad Saige Jenco, who’s currently a sophomore CF with Virginia Tech. Its a great sounding baseball name if you ask me. Jenco was taken in the 27th round by the Boston Red Sox. If you have been with us for awhile, you already know that Marc and I are proud that another past draft pick from our alma mater, who was also a UTR, made it to majors….Cardinals Matt Adams. There’s another from our old school that Im currently following, RHP Luke Curtis (LoA Wisconsin), who’s made one UTR Mention this season. District 6 baseball is highly competitive and though it would never rival some of the best Summer Leagues across the nation, the County, Legion and AAABA Leagues in the Region can put together some really good teams. The AAABA holds their National Tournament just down the road in Johnstown, PA. And speaking of District 6 Baseball, Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was a product hailing from Punxsutawney. So our hometown region has a rich baseball history and we wish both recently drafted players all the best.
