May 31, 2015 – Under the Radar Hitters of the Day (HiA TNT)

If you’ve been following our Players of the Day feature this season, you’d see that Jim and I are separating the National and American League players. We thought this would help those fantasy leaguers who are in league-specific leagues. As I listed the N.L. and A.L. teams today, it offered a harsh reminder of the days Jim and I used to report only on the National League for MLBDepthcharts.com (now RosterResource) and how we would agonize over the boxscores of the Houston Astros.  It wasn’t long ago that the Astros were a downtrodden N.L. organization embedded in that bottom organizational tier lacking top prospects, let alone ample depth. Well, it’s certainly no secret that a fresh direction under a new regime, trades and working the draft have helped resurrect the Astros into one of the most prospect-rich in not only the American League, but all of baseball. Proof positive came last night in the form of Houston’s HiA affiliate the Lancaster JetHawks.

Seven of the nine JetHawk hitters qualified for today’s UTR HOD after a NFL-like 21-6 drubbing of the High Desert Mavericks (TEX) last night.  I think it’s safe to say Jim won’t be featuring any pitchers from this matchup, as the game featured 31 hits including 11 home runs, five doubles and a triple. Lancaster’s offensive explosion forced me to alter how I list their stat lines today.  It’s so much fun coming into each day without warning as to what I’ll see let alone report for our readers. Nothing you read from day to day is prepared. It all comes straight from the hip, off the top, un-rehearsed. That’s the way we like it. Seem’s fitting because that’s what UTR is all about. Expect the unexpected and never ever count anyone or anything out of the equation.
