July 31, 2014 – UTR Pitcher Performances

*(Connecticut Tigers (DET) – Short-Season New York Penn League)  – In game one of a double-header, Three Tiger pitchers combined to throw a near no-hitter.  SP Spencer Turnbull began the game tossing 3 no-hit innings and collecting one strikeout. Tigers  reliever Josh Laxer, W (2-0) came on in the 4th and equalled Turnbulls performance with 3 innings and a single K of his own. Paul Voelker then entered the bottom of the 7th only to give up a one out triple to Phillies center fielder Jiandido Tromp. Voelker went on to strike out the next two batters to secure a one-hitter and a 5-0 victory. 

RP Brian Miller, (SS New York Penn Lg. – Hudson Valley- TB)  22 yrs. old;    1 inning, 0 hits, 0 R, 2 K,  0.00 ERA  (The 2014 – 15th rounder out of Vanderbilt has surrendered one walk, 2 hits while racking up 14 K’s in 12 innings so far this season.

*No pitcher in Florida State League qualified 

SP Roel Ramirez, (Rookie Appalachian Lg. – Princeton- TB)  19 yrs. old;    6 innings, 2 hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K,  1.31 ERA,  W (5-1) 

SP Blaine Weller, (HiA California Lg. – Visalia- ARI)  24 yrs.old;    8 innings, 6 hits, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 16 K,  4.00 ERA,  W (2-0)

SP Chaz Herbert, (LoA South Atlantic Lg. – Charleston- NYY)  21 yrs. old;    *(It’s not often a stat line like this:    7 innings, 2 hits, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K,  2.58 ERA  garners a loss (1-3) but it’s common even when good pitchers go up against Nationals star prospect Lucas Giolito.

RP Michael Johnson, (LoA Midwest Lg. – Great Lakes- LAD)  23 yrs. old;    1 inning, 0 hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K,  1.76 ERA 

RP Emilio Pagan, (LoA Midwest Lg. – Clinton- SEA)  23 yrs. old;    2 innings,  0 hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K,  3.12 ERA,  (Sv, 12)

SP Joel Cabrera, (Dominican Summer Lg. – Phillies)  20 yrs. old;    8 innings, 4 hits, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB. 6 K,  2.65 ERA,  W (2-5)  –  (Cabrera has surrendered 57 hits and struck out 44 hitters this season, but it’s this ratio that has us excited:  3 walks:68 innings.)
