July 1, 2014 – UTR Pitcher Performances

Late posting tonight because the pitching in the DSL yesterday was off the charts and I got lost doing research. I had a total of 9 DSL pitchers making the criteria list. Also, it was good to see three Philadelphia pitchers making the mention list today. The Phillies have been one of the weakest teams on my UTR list this season, only having a total of nine pitchers making mentions so far. Hard to believe that we turned over an month and we begin the breadth of the UTR season and also start the down hill slide toward the playoffs in the Fantasy Leagues. In the next two months, please close attention to our site as some keeper leagues’ deadline for waiver wire pickups are drawing closer. Players mentioned could be a nice late season pick-up as a keeper or possibly a “flier” for some off-season trades. In the in-famous Pennsylvania Furnace League that Marc and I participate…I am vicariously knocking on the door for the last playoff spot. After starting the season 0-3 and suffering from DLitis, Im hoping my team begins to peak. They have too…as I may need to run the table in the last seven weeks. I hope that Im still a PFL fanatic by the time the first pitcher mentioned hits the Rookie Leagues. He could be interesting……

SP Ranger Suarez (VSL Phillies – Philadelphia) 18 years old
6 Innings, 3 Hits, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 2.08 ERA – SP\TPS .024
*2-Time UTR Mention – Yes…the TPS stat has a different color font. That was not an entry error that I commited, I meant to to this. In fact, if there was a way to increase the font to 36 pt…..thats what I would have used. This 18 year old left-hander has to be creating a buzz in the VSL and you have to wonder when the Phillies will bring this kid North. He’s on his third stint in the VSL and after 9 starts he has put up this unbelievable stat which smoked the TPS formula…..47.2 IP, 49 K, with only TWO walks. Talk about pinpoint control. According to MinorLeagueCentral.com, Suarez has a K-Swinging rate of 20.3 % and a K-Looking rate of 5.9% out of the 187 batters he’s faced. At 6′ 0″ 177 lbs., Suarez last made a UTR Mention on May 25th and has been listed on my daily sheets 7 out of his 9 starts. Ive been watching and waiting for him to make another mention….so now’s the time to officially place him on the UTRMinor.com Watch List.
SP Fernandez Jose (DSL Yankees – New York) – 21 years old
4 Innings, 2 Hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 K – TPS N/A
*Jose’s second start this season. The odd fact about this right-hander is….this is his third season in the DSL and he only has 8 appearances (4 in 2012, 2 in 2013). Let’s see where this goes……
